geek obsession – sleep cycle app
i haven’t been so excited about an application for quite a while. happened to see someone on twitter mention that he was thinking of trying the sleep cycle application to get better sleep (which is a perennial problem for me), so i decided to give it a try.
i bought the “Sleep Cycle” application ($0.99 only) and tested it out last night. you put the iphone on charge and start the app, place it on the bed near where you sleep and it will record your movements using the accelerometer. i had major concerns with keeping the iphone on the whole night coz it tends to overheat, but it seemed fine in the morning. based on the cycles, the app will wake you up within a 30min window where you are in the lightest sleep phase, closest to your preset wake up time. it even had a nice little tune to gently wake you up. hehe
at the end of the “session”, you can see a chart of your sleep cycles, which was probably computed based on how movement correlates to which sleep phase you’re in. You can even email a report of your graph:
